Invisalign in Greenvale, Craigieburn, Roxburgh Park, and Melbourne
Lived with crowded teeth for years but never fancied a mouth full of metal? At Greenvale Dental House, Invisalign straightens mild to moderate cases with clear, removable aligners, when it suits.
It Is Not Only About Looks
Crowded or crooked teeth are not only a cosmetic matter. They can be harder to clean between, which lets plaque build up where you cannot reach, they can load the jaw unevenly, and in some cases they affect how comfortably you chew.
Invisalign handles mild to moderate alignment well, but it is not the right tool for every case. Where the alignment or bite is more complex, fixed braces or another approach may do a better job, and we will say so plainly rather than fit you to the treatment.
How Invisalign Works
Invisalign uses a series of custom-made clear aligners, each one nudging your teeth a little further along a planned path. They are removable, so they come out to eat, to drink anything other than water, and to clean your teeth. Each set is usually worn for one to two weeks before you move on to the next.
It starts with a digital scan of your teeth, which feeds software that maps the whole sequence of movements before a single aligner is made. That plan is then manufactured into your set of aligners. How well it goes depends a lot on you: the aligners need to be in for 20 to 22 hours a day to keep the plan on track. Case complexity and individual factors play a part too, and results vary from person to person.
Is Invisalign Right for Your Case?
Clear aligners are not suitable for every alignment concern, and an assessment comes before any recommendation. Generally, a few things need to be in place.
Your Alignment Is Mild to Moderate
Your concerns sit within the range clear aligners handle well. More complex alignment or bite issues may be better suited to fixed braces or another approach, which we will talk through if that is the case.
You Can Commit to Wearing Them
Twenty to twenty-two hours a day is the minimum for treatment to progress as planned. That is a genuine commitment, and being honest with yourself about whether it fits your routine matters before starting.
You Have Realistic Expectations
How long it takes varies with the case and how consistently you wear the aligners. Knowing what Invisalign can do, what it cannot, and what it asks of you day to day is part of making a decision you will be comfortable with.
From Scan to Straighter Teeth
Treatment length varies with what needs to move and how closely the plan is followed. Generally it runs like this.

Orthodontic Assessment
A thorough look at your teeth, bite, and gum health using digital scans, X-rays, and photographs, to work out whether Invisalign suits your situation and what treatment would involve. (1 visit, about 60 to 90 minutes)

Digital Planning
Your tooth movements are mapped out in Invisalign’s planning software, producing a digital sequence of how your teeth are expected to shift. (1 to 2 weeks of planning, then a plan review)

Making the Aligners
Once you approve the plan, your full series of aligners is manufactured to its exact specifications. (2 to 3 weeks after plan approval)

Fitting and Instructions
You collect your first sets and get a clear rundown on wearing them, cleaning them, and moving through the series. (1 visit, about 45 to 60 minutes)

Progress Check-Ups
Reviews every six to ten weeks let your dentist track how the teeth are moving, sort out any issues, and hand over the next sets. (Several visits through treatment, about 30 to 45 minutes each)

Retention
When the active phase is done, retainers hold the teeth in their new positions. This part is ongoing and just as important as the aligners. (Final appointment plus retainers, ongoing)
Risks and Recovery
Invisalign is a well-established option, but like any treatment there are things worth knowing upfront.
Possible risks include:
- Pressure and mild discomfort when moving to a new set, which usually settles within a day or two
- Some irritation to the lips, cheeks, or tongue while your mouth adjusts to the aligners
- Temporary changes to speech in the early weeks, which generally pass quickly
- A higher cavity risk if the aligners are not cleaned properly and oral hygiene slips
Recovery considerations:
- Most people adjust to wearing the aligners within the first few days
- Because they come out, eating and cleaning stay straightforward throughout
- Keeping to 20 to 22 hours of daily wear is what holds the timeline on track
- Regular check-ups are where anything that needs adjusting gets caught early

Any questions?

How long does Invisalign take?
It depends on the case. Simpler alignment can be sorted in around six months, while more involved cases can run closer to two years. Your dentist will give you a realistic estimate once they have looked at your teeth properly. What we will not do is throw out a number before we have assessed you.
What if I do not wear them enough?
Treatment stalls. Teeth need steady pressure to move through the planned sequence, and gaps in wear time throw that off, which can mean longer treatment, extra aligners, or replanning. It is worth being honest with yourself about this before you start.
Will I need retainers afterwards?
Yes. Teeth naturally tend to drift back towards where they began, and retainers are what hold them. Some form of retention is usually needed long term, though exactly what varies. Your dentist will go through the options as you near the end of active treatment.
