Single Dental Implants in Greenvale, Craigieburn, Roxburgh Park, and Melbourne
When did you last bite into an apple without thinking twice? A missing tooth quietly narrows what you eat. At Greenvale Dental House, a single implant gives those everyday moments back.
Why a Gap Rarely Stays a Gap
Leaving a gap feels harmless enough, and for a while it is. But a missing tooth changes more than the view in the mirror. A gap does not stay still: the teeth on either side slowly lean towards the space, the tooth above or below it can begin to drift, and the bone that once held the root starts to shrink away beneath the gum.
None of this happens overnight, which is exactly why it is so easy to put off. By the time it shows, more teeth than the original one can be caught up in it. Replacing the tooth sooner keeps the problem contained to where it began.
How a Single Implant Works
A single implant replaces the whole tooth, root included, rather than just the part you can see. A small titanium post is placed into the jaw, and over a few months the bone grows around it to hold it in place. A custom crown is then made to sit on top, matched to the teeth beside it.
Unlike a traditional bridge, an implant does not rely on reshaping the healthy teeth on either side of the gap. It stands on its own, which is part of why it can also help slow the bone loss that tends to follow a missing tooth.
Is a Single Implant a Good Fit?
Every mouth is different, so the only real answer comes from an assessment. That said, a single implant is often worth considering if a few things are true.
You Have One Tooth to Replace
You would prefer a fixed replacement to a removable plate, and you would rather not have the neighbouring teeth reshaped to carry a bridge.
Your Gums and Bone Are Healthy
Firm gums without active disease and enough jawbone to hold the post both matter. If some bone has been lost, we can talk through whether grafting is an option at your assessment.
You Are Ready for a Few Months
An implant is not a single appointment. It runs over several months of healing, and the long-term result leans on good day-to-day cleaning and keeping up with reviews.
From First Visit to Final Crown
Timelines vary with how you heal and how complex your case is, but most single implants follow these steps.

Consultation and Planning
We examine the area, take digital images, and go through your options and what each one involves. (1 visit, about 60 to 90 minutes)

Placing the Implant
The titanium post is placed under local anaesthetic. Sedation, including in-house IV sedation, is available if you find dental visits difficult. (1 visit, about 1 to 2 hours)

Healing
The implant is left to integrate with the bone while we check in on your progress. (Usually 3 to 6 months)

Adding the Abutment
A small connector is fitted to the post to prepare for the crown. (1 visit, about 30 to 45 minutes)

Making the Crown
Impressions are taken and your crown is made to match your other teeth in shape and shade. (1 to 2 visits over 2 to 3 weeks)

Fitting the Crown
The finished crown is fitted and adjusted so the bite feels right. (1 visit, about 45 to 60 minutes)
Risks and Recovery
An implant is a long-term option, but placing one is minor surgery, so it helps to know what comes with it.
Possible risks include:
- Swelling, bruising, or tenderness in the days after surgery
- Some bleeding while the area first heals
- Infection at the implant site
- The implant failing to integrate with the bone, which can mean it does not take
Recovery considerations:
- Early healing usually takes one to two weeks
- Integration with the bone, called osseointegration, takes several months
- A softer diet is often suggested while things settle
- Regular reviews and steady cleaning matter for the long-term result

Invest in Your Oral Health
Any questions?

How long does a single implant last?
An implant is meant as a long-term replacement, but we cannot promise an exact timeframe. How long yours lasts depends on things like your oral hygiene, general health, and habits. The crown on top may need replacing through normal wear before the implant itself does. Your dentist will talk through realistic expectations at your consultation.
Will it hurt?
Local anaesthetic numbs the area while the implant is placed, so the procedure itself is manageable. Some soreness and swelling afterwards is normal and usually settles within a week or two. If you find dental treatment stressful, we offer sedation, including in-house IV sedation, to help you through it.
Can I eat normally afterwards?
Once it has fully healed, an implant is made to handle everyday eating much like a natural tooth. During the healing months a softer diet is usually recommended so the bone can integrate properly. Your dentist will give you guidance for your own case.
