Dental Implants in Greenvale: A Complete Guide to Replacing Missing Teeth
Dental implants in Greenvale offer a way to replace missing teeth that stays put when you eat, talk, and smile. Unlike dentures that rest on your gums, implants anchor directly into your jawbone, which is why many patients find them more comfortable and natural-feeling.
At Greenvale Dental House, Dr Fong Nien Yong has placed over 3,000 dental implants and completed more than 500 full-arch (All-on-4 Plus®) cases. Dr Fong holds a Master Clinician designation in Implant Dentistry from Loma Linda University and is a Fellow of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists. Your first consultation is complimentary, so you can explore whether implants are right for you without any financial commitment.

How do dental implants work?

Think of a dental implant as a three-part system working together:
The implant. A small titanium post placed into your jawbone during a minor surgical procedure. Titanium is biocompatible, meaning your bone naturally fuses with it over time. This process, called osseointegration, typically takes three to six months.
The abutment. Once the implant has integrated with your bone, this connector piece is attached to the top of the implant.
The crown. The visible part that looks like a natural tooth. It’s custom-made to match your existing teeth in colour, shape, and size.
Dr Fong uses 3D imaging and digital planning to place implants with precision. This technology allows him to map your jawbone structure and plan the optimal implant position before your procedure even begins.

Are you a candidate for dental implants?

Not everyone is suitable for implants. During your complimentary consultation, Dr Fong will assess several factors:
Bone density. You need sufficient jawbone to anchor the implant securely. If bone density is an issue, bone grafting may be an option, though this adds time and cost to treatment.
Overall health. Conditions like uncontrolled diabetes can affect healing. Certain medications may also impact your suitability.
Smoking status. Smoking significantly increases the risk of implant failure. If you smoke, we’ll discuss this honestly with you.
Your expectations. We want to ensure you understand what implants can and cannot achieve for your specific situation.
Some patients are suitable for immediate implants, where a temporary crown is placed the same day as the implant. Others require the staged approach with healing time between steps. Dr Fong will recommend the best approach based on your individual circumstances.

What does the implant process involve?

Initial consultation (complimentary). We’ll examine your mouth, take 3D scans, discuss your goals, and determine if implants are right for you.
Treatment planning. If you proceed, Dr Fong creates a detailed surgical plan using digital imaging to map the precise implant placement.
Implant placement. The titanium post is placed into your jawbone. Most patients report the procedure is more comfortable than they expected. You’ll have local anaesthesia, and sedation options are available if you’re anxious.
Healing period. Over three to six months, your bone fuses with the implant. You may have a temporary tooth during this time.
Restoration. Once healed, the abutment and custom crown are attached. You’ll leave with a tooth that looks and functions like your natural teeth.

Recovery and aftercare

Most patients experience some discomfort after implant placement, typically manageable with over-the-counter pain relief. Swelling and bruising are common in the first few days.
You’ll need to stick to soft foods initially and follow specific care instructions. We provide detailed written guidance and check in with you during healing. Dr Fong or another member of our team is always available if you have concerns.

This has to be the best dental practice I have ever been to (and I’ve been to a few over the years)! Have attended both Sunbury and most recently the Bacchus Marsh Dental House. All the Staff are wonderful. I see Dr. Fong and he is amazing. He makes me feel very comfortable and at ease. He is very personable and always make me laugh. Thanks also to the lovely Hannah who assisted when I had my recent procedure done.

Not just any old dental clinic, made to feel right at Home as soon as I walked in the door. Friendly and caring team and love the color purple throughout!

Had my first visit to Sunbury Dental House last week – they promise a gentle approach and having a crown prep done by Dr Fong after cracking a tooth, I’ve felt comfortable during my dental appointment. Being able to watch a movie during treatment certainly helped! Looking forward to my return visit in a few weeks!
